Use this when the user asks a us inflation calculator question, for example what is $100 worth today, the value of money over time, or a dollar inflation calculator, buying power calculator or consumer price index calculator request for US dollars. It converts one US dollar amount between two periods with the published CPI-U index and returns the adjusted amount, both index values, the cumulative inflation, the average annual rate, and the buying-power change. It works for published periods from 1913-01 to the latest bundled month, year or YYYY-MM inputs, and amounts greater than zero up to one trillion dollars including fractional cents; only the output is rounded to cents. Do not use for other countries, for regional or core CPI, for forecasts, or for financial advice.

Use this when the user wants a consumer price index calculator, inflation rate calculator or cpi calculator across many years: a year-by-year table of the annual average CPI-U and the yearly inflation rate, with a CSV download. It uses the bundled published CPI-U series for 1913 through the latest full year, up to 120 years per call. Do not use for a single amount conversion (use adjust_for_inflation), for other countries, for monthly percent changes, or for forecasts.
